With the Korean Stock Exchange, securities companies and financial institutions clustered here, Yeouido is often called the "Manhattan of Korea." Korea's major broadcasters, media companies and ad agencies are also located here. The island is also sometimes called the cradle of Korean politics as a home to the National Assembly building and national headquarters of political parties.

The World Cup Fountain located in front of the Seoul World Cup Stadium shoots water as high as 202m representing the year 2002FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan. The fountain symbolizes peace and prosperity of mankind through the first World Cup in the 21st century. The 202m-high main fountain and the twenty-one 30m-high smaller fountains present different shapes. 4. World Cup Stadium
Originally designed in the form of a traditional Korean kite, the roof of the Seoul World Cup Stadium is shaped like a gigantic rectangular shield. It is 2,855 square meters of high-tech Teflon-coated Palladium, with almost 8,000 square meters of glass light panels. State-of-the-art construction techniques were used to curve the roof to mirror the traditional Korean roof and eave. The body of the Stadium itself is octagonal in shape, mimicking that of the traditional Korean tray. The tray is meant to symbolize the generosity and hospitality of the host country.
